Marathon Targets addresses a current capability gap in live-fire training: the first time soldiers engage a moving target is in combat - the wrong place for on-the-job training. To address this problem, Marathon makes autonomous trackless targets for live-fire combat marksmanship training. The robotic targets are humanlike in appearance, motion, and behavior: e.g. if one target is hit, the others can react by running for cover. The Marathon system has been in active use with military forces around the world since 2008 including the US Marine Corps, US Army, and US SOCOM
